Eastern Cape

Predator & Pest Camp

The Dark Continent has the best variety in predator and pest hunting. Our camp in the malaria-free Eastern Cape with Rosedale Safaris offers the best of both worlds. You’ll hunt 12 different species both day and night, and the best part is that you won’t have to quit if you’re having great luck because 5 of the 12 animals (jackal, porcupine, baboon, vervet monkey, and night caracal) have an unlimited quota!

Our hosted camp falls in April, but a group of at least 2 hunters can book with Charl directly for dates in the remainder of the season (March-October). Only three main predators (serval, civet, honey badger) do not occur in the hunting areas. You can add a Limpopo package if you’re looking to do the predator “slam” in one go. The PH in that area has nearly 100% opportunity rates on all three.

Night Hunting

There are two ways that you’ll target the animals at night. One is with a licensed predator control PH using thermal scopes from a jackal chair (360 degree swivel). The other is from a regular hunting truck using Pulsar thermals to spot animals before switching to a spotlight for the shot. Night portion includes:

  • x2 nights thermals & jackal chair (jakkals skietstoel)

  • x3 nights spotlighting

  • Aardwolf x1 (can substitute for $1,000 trophy fee credit)

  • White-tailed mongoose x1

  • Striped polecat x1

  • Spotted genet x1

  • Springhare x2

  • Scrub/Cape hare x2

  • Unlimited jackals

  • Unlimited porcupine

  • Unlimited caracal (least common)

Some plains game are legal to hunt at night and can be added per Rosedale’s price list. The most common targets are duiker and steenbok. We don’t recommend hunting anything with expensive color variations at night.

Day Hunting

If you’re a predator purist, you won’t have to hunt plains game to pass time during the day. We have great varmint hunting to keep you busy, as well as caracal hunting with dogs to make sure you get a shot at your cat. Day portion includes:

  • x3 days caracal over dogs (can substitute for $850 trophy fee credit)

  • x2 days long-range varminting

  • Caracal x1

  • Rock hyrax x2

  • Unlimited baboon

  • Unlimited vervet monkey

Baboons are a real problem for locals, rolling boulders onto highways and killing any tracking dog they can get a hold of. They’re usually too clever to sit for a shot under 400 yards, so be ready to take some pokes. Vervets are less cautious, but even more of a nuisance due to their numbers.

Of course, you can always switch to plains game if you get tired of pest control. You will likely be hosted at the same lodge as our fallow deer hunters and will be tempted daily by their results. If you’re like us, it’s a safe bet to budget $750 for the fallow trophy fee.
